Needing, Enough, Excess & Shortage A Buddhist practitioner should lead a simple life but this does not mean depriving oneself to destitute living. Albert Einstein, he of Relativity theory, once said:
“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.”
All things in life, whether mental or material, must be optimally kept at an enough level:
Need means something indispensable.
Enough means no residual and no shortage.
Excess means something must be removed.
Shortage means something must be added.
Biggest means there is nothing else besides it
Smallest means there is nothing else inside it.
