Thánh nhân hiểu rất rõ điều mình tin và tin chết bỏ điều mình hiểu.Phàm phu vì không hiểu lắm điều mình tin nên không tin lắm điều mình hiểu.
Chúng ta chỉ mất từ 2 đến 3 năm để học nói nhưng chúng ta phải mất mấy chục năm để học im lặng.
Chắc có lẽ cho tôi ngưng chỗ này một chút. Tôi phải khoe bà con một chuyện đặc biệt này. Tôi suy nghĩ rất là nhiều cái tên gọi thiền đường tương lai của mình đó. Nói tương lai chớ cũng sắp tới rồi. Tôi nghĩ hoài cuối cùng tôi đặt tên Parami là bởi chữ parami tôi phân tích trong bài đó nếu dịch ra là Việt, người Việt mình đó. Parami là ‘param’ với ‘i’, có nghĩa là ‘đi qua bờ kia’, là ‘vượt’. Vượt có nghĩa là ‘Việt’. Mà đồng thời từ ‘parami’ rất nổi tiếng trong Phật giáo mình. Tức là hành trình huân tu hạnh lành, kiến lập Phật Đạo đó. Nhưng mà lạ lắm. Cách đây ba đêm tôi bị cảm, tôi uống thuốc Neocitran của Thụy Sĩ nó giải cảm nhưng nó ngủ. Tôi ngủ say lắm. Lúc đó tầm tầm khoảng 3g sáng. Cái này các vị có thể không tin, các vị nói tôi kể phong thần cũng được. Nhưng tôi không nghĩ đó là cái gì huyền bí gì hết. Mà nó là một cái chấn động tâm thức nào tôi không hiểu. Khả năng đó tôi cho nó lớn hơn là khả năng của chư Thiên. Thì tầm khoảng 3g sáng tôi đang ngủ rất là say, thì tôi nghe văng vẳng, cái đó mới lạ. Ngủ rất say nhưng lúc đó lại nghe trên đầu giường mình, tại tôi đang xoay đầu về trong vách, mà tôi cảm giác có ai đó đứng ở đầu giường tôi, nói một câu nghe rất là khó hiểu. Là ‘Kalama’ đừng ‘Parami’. Tôi không có hiểu. Tôi nghe hơi nhỏ, thì cái câu đó được nhắc lại một lần nữa, là “Kalama đừng Parami”. Thì trong lúc đó tôi đang ngủ say lắm, thuốc nó mạnh neocitran người ta uống có nửa gói tôi quất một gói mà. Thì lúc trong giấc ngủ tôi nói thầm ‘Kalama không có nghĩa’, rồi tôi ngủ luôn. Thì sáng hôm đó tôi giật mình dậy khoảng chừng mấy tiếng đồng hồ tôi giựt mình dậy tôi hết hồn! Là cái ‘parami’ là cái tên tôi đặt cho thiền viện, thiền đường thì ai biết. Mà người trong giấc mơ tôi cũng không biết là nam hay nữ, nhưng mà tại sao họ kêu ‘Kalama’, tôi mới giật mình; “Ô, chữ Kalama không có nghĩa. Nó là tên một ngôi làng mà Đức Thế Tôn ghé đó rồi dân làng họ ra họ mới nói với Ngài là nhiều cha ghé đây lắm. Cha nào cũng nói mình số một, thì con không biết Thế Tôn số mấy trong đám đó. Thì Ngài nói rằng: “Đừng quan tâm đến cái gì mà nó gọi là truyền thuyết, là Tổ sư, là Kinh sách, là truyền thống lâu đời, mà các ngươi phải xem cái đó là thiện hay ác, có hại mình hại người, lợi mình lợi người hay không, cái đó mới quan trọng. Chứ còn cái chuyện điều đó được tuyên bố bởi thầy nào, cha nào, sư phụ nào, tổ sư nào, giáo chủ nào, truyền thống nào, Kinh điển nào, cái đó không quan trọng. Mà cái quan trọng là nội dung trong đó." Cho nên Kinh Kalama là một Kinh rất nổi tiếng. Nổi tiếng đến mức mà chúng ta có thể nói rằng một trăm ông Tây bà Đầm mà nghiên cứu Phật Pháp đều biết Kinh Kalama. Bởi bài Kinh đó là một nhát búa đóng thẳng vào thánh Kinh của Thiên Chúa. Bên Cơ Đốc họ nói rằng "Phúc thay cho kẻ nào chưa thấy đã tin." Còn bên Nam Tông mình, Kinh điển Pali thì lại có một bài Kinh đặc biệt nói ngược lại là: Đừng tin vào truyền thống, đừng tin vào sư phụ mà chỉ quan sát cái nội dung điều mình được nghe, rồi mới quyết định tin hay bỏ. Thì đặc biệt phải nói tôi lạnh xương sống và tôi rất là xúc động. Tôi không gọi đó là giấc mơ vì nó ngắn quá, nó khoảng chừng một giây rưỡi thôi quí vị, mà không biết ai nói, mà một câu nói rất là mơ hồ “Kalama dừng Parami”. Và tôi đã quyết định bỏ cái tên Parami. Và tôi cũng thấy hơi quê cái chỗ lý do cái nội dung nó hơi phong thần. Mà quê chỗ nữa là cách đây mấy ngày mình đã thiết tha tâm huyết viết cái bài về cái tên Parami. Rồi bây giờ mình ăn nói làm sao với thiên hạ bàn dân đây. Thế là tôi im luôn. Tôi âm thầm đặt người ta một miếng gỗ thông dát xéo, rồi khắc chữ là “Kalama Hermitage” có nghĩa là Ẩn Xứ, không biết hermitage tiếng Việt kêu là gì. Quá hay, đặc biệt, và tôi rất là hoan hỷ. Nếu mà nói hơi phong thần một chút, tôi nghĩ giống như chư Thiên họ cho mình cái tên đó. Biết đâu trong tiềm thức mình một cái thao thức, một cái trăn trở, cuối cùng tôi chọn tên Kalama. Và tôi gọi cho mấy người Phật tử quen ở châu Âu, tôi mới vừa nhắc tên Kalama, họ nói ‘Sư ơi, con thích cái tên đó. Con thích cái tên đó. Sư lấy cái tên đó đi Sư. Kalama hay quá’. Thế là chưa nói đến cái ý nghĩa tinh thần, ý nghĩa Kinh điển, ý nghĩa gì hết, chỉ riêng cái tên là thấy dễ thương rồi. Tôi đặt đó là Trung tâm Kalama mà cái hàm ý đó là một trung tâm mà chúng ta đến để chúng ta nhìn lại Kinh điển, nhìn lại chính mình. Đây là một trung tâm ‘nhìn lại’, chớ không phải một trung tâm ‘tin theo’, không phải là trung tâm ‘tin nhận’, không phải là trung tâm cắm đầu mù quáng. Mà đây là chỗ chúng ta nhìn lại, dầu có đến đó đọc sách cũng để nhìn lại. Dầu có đến đó để tu tập Tuệ quán cũng để nhìn lại mình thôi. Tôi gọi nó là Trung tâm Kalama.
