Earthen floors and tiled floorsA Buddhist sometimes has to see his mind as an earthen floor, sometimes as a tiled floor. Why see your mind as an earthen floor? Because simple dirty bits on an earthen floor can be ignored. Any nonsense that lands on the earthen floor can be left unnoticed. It means your mind will not be bothered by life's annoyances. Why see your mind as a tiled floor? Because any occurring hindrance, no matter how small, can be discovered, seen and negated quickly. It is the same in a layman's life. Some things can be and should be seen as trivial and ignored. Like substandard food, cold or hot weather. By contrast, some things should raise alarm as soon as they happen. An odd pain or a sickly feeling should not be ignored as they may herald serious illness.
